Last month visitors to Baidu.com were redirected to a page stating that the site had been hacked by the Iranian Cyber Army.  You can find our report here about that.  Baidu later sued Register.com for allegedly allowing a security intrusion that enabled the hackers to change the name servers for Baidu.com.

Here’s how Baidu alleges the hacker got access to one of the world’s most popular web sites domain name account in under an hour :

1. Hacker starts online chat session with Register.com representative, claiming to be an agent of Baidu.

2. Register.com representative asks hacker to provide verification information. Hacker provides invalid information, but Register.com goes ahead and e-mails a security code to the email address it has on file for Baidu anyway.

3. The hacker doesn’t have access to that e-mail address, so he/she relays a bogus security code to the Register.com representative via chat. Baidu claims the representative didn’t bother to compare the code to the actual one.

4. Hacker asks Register.com representative to change email address on file to antiwahabi2008@gmail.com, and representative does.

5. Hacker now uses “forgot password” link at Register.com to request the username and password to the account. Hacker can then log in and change the name servers.

Domain Name wire mentioned that this isn’t the first time a major corporation has had its nameservers changed thanks to a compromised domain account. But the details in how the account was allegedly compromised are stunning. It’s also unfortunate that, had Baidu used added security such as that offered by Moniker or Fabulous, this entire event could have been avoided.

Go to Google and type this words (without quotes) in the search box :

“Buddhism is” – You should see some search suggestions in the drop down list.

“Christianity is” – You should see some search suggestions in the drop down list.

“Hinduism is” – You should see some search suggestions in the drop down list.

‘Islam is” – No suggestions.

This is due to a bug in the Google search’s suggest feature. Google reportedly working on this issue to fix it as quickly as possible.

Google says it’s working to fix a bug in Google Suggest that is blocking search suggestions related to Islam. As The Next Web has reported, typing Islam is into Google shows no terms from Google Suggest.

But replace Islam with a number of other major religions — such as Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, etc. — and Google Suggest shows a variety of terms, including many negative ones like … is a lie, is false, is a cult, etc. The discrepancy between how these religions are portrayed and the lack of suggested terms for Islam is led some to accuse Google of favoritism.

Not so, Google says. A spokesperson tells us: “This is a bug and we’re working to fix it as quickly as we can.”

A smiling Mr Bean on Spain’s EU presidency website

A picture of Mr Bean was plastered on Spain’s official website for its EU presidency after it was briefly hacked.

The country’s prime minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero supposedly looks like the British comedy character.

And the apparent resemblance has been a running joke in Spain for several years.

The mock-up showed a smiling Mr Bean, the TV and movie character played by Rowan Atkinson, saying “Hi there”.

An official at Mr Zapatero’s office confirmed a security breach had affected the page specifically set up to mark Spain’s six-month presidency of the European Union.

But the official added that no information at the site had been affected.
